F1 in Schools
Linn Primary School Formula 1 Team, ALPHA F1 race to 3rd in the National Final of Formula 1 in Schools Competition.
ALPHA F1 team travelled to Birmingham on the 10th of March to against the best schools in the United Kingdom. ALPHA F1 had already been crowned Regional Champions at the beginning of February with their car, the AF1-R travelling 25 metres in 0.99 seconds.
The team, made up of Jack McKenna, Bobbie Creighton, Alex Eynon, Hannah Reid, John Burns and Elle Finnigan had to create their team from scratch, making up a team name and logo, attracting sponsors, producing merchandise, a pit display and portfolio as well as designing and manufacturing their own car!
ALPHA F1 travelled to the Regional Final and won the award for Best Portfolio and taking First Place Overall. This success enabled them to represent Northern Ireland at the National Final.
The team, accompanied by Mrs Duff and Mr Montgomery travelled to Birmingham for the Final having created two new cars and made changes to their Pit Display. They were up against 18 schools from across the United Kingdom. They had to give an eight minute verbal presentation about the entire F1 process that they had gone through, have their car analysed and then be asked questions about the engineering that was involved in it, meet judges at their pit display and be asked questions about it and if that wasn’t enough, they had to race their car down the 25 metre track live on YouTube.
The car looked amazing, the Pit Display looked really professional and the children were fantastic!
Finally, we came to the awards ceremony. We were not expecting to win anything, especially when you took the quality of the opposition into consideration. ALPHA F1 came away with the award for Innovative Thinking and in the 9-11 age group were placed 3rd overall!!
What a fantastic achievement for the children. They were fantastic ambassadors for Linn Primary School and they should be very proud of themselves.
